Leroy Pope Walker was the first Secretary of War for the Confederacy and ordered the southern troops to fire on Fort Sumptor, starting the Civil War. He also served as the defense attorney for Frank James who was tried and acquitted in 1884 for stealing a federal payroll in Muscle Shoals.
